Summerland Montessori School has been an extremely positive experience since day one not only for my daughter but the for the whole family. Its’ family like atmosphere has made it easy for parents and extended family to be involved in all aspects. The excellent teachers and nurturing, caring environment has allowed my daughter to excel academically and learn true mentoring skills. The French and music program are superior and second to none. I love also that Spanish is part of the curriculum. SMS was and is the best decision for my daughter for the present and the future.

We are very excited about Summerland Montessori School. Our oldest entered the school 6 years ago now and it is very clear to me that Gavin has been able to become who he is because of how SMS allows kids to find themselves and grow up without all the stresses and pressures most kids have in other settings. Our younger son Liam is also at SMS and we just appreciate how each child is handled differently.
I think the greatest attributes of SMS are their ability to nurture each kid, the Montessori teaching style and parental involvement. The teachers at SMS are able to focus more on each child with smaller class sizes, realize who they are with their different personalities and learning styles - and really try to nurture them into who they can be - without all the bullying and other stresses. The Montessori Teaching style is very active - shorter hits of teaching interspursed with practicing what they have just learned and then a bit of free time to play with stuff in the class - which is usually directly related to what they are learning anyways! No kid is expected to just sit there and listen for too long. Parental involvement means two things - trouble in the classroom is usually dealt with very quickly by the parents so you don't end up with the lowest denominator pulling the entire class down with them - Also - parents become friends and pretty soon part of the Montessori Family. We do a lot of fun stuff together as well as completing the little tasks around the school which gives us ownership and pride in our school. Our kids are used to having us involved in their daily activities and lives.
Is there a more important investment we can make than in our kids? I feel the younger, formative years of a child’s life is what really sets them up for the rest of their life, and I'm glad we are partnered with SMS in nurturing our boys.

We have been associated with The Summerland Montessori School since 2003 with our youngest child currently in Grade 1. I am not a French speaking parent but I am extremely pleased at the progress my children have made learning a second language. Our children have attended private, independent, and public schools in the past and there is no where else I would have them for elementary school than in the SMS, JJK to grade 5 programs. It was very difficult at times at these other schools, so I am happy we finally got it right. For the parents of the children who already attend, I hope they have an idea how good they have it! It is a superior education with caring and encouraging teachers in a comfortable environment.
